The Whole Mother Doula
serving Central Kentucky

as mothers care for others they also need care--
physically, spiritually, mentally, emotionally and especially in the beautiful and intense experiences of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
In birth, not only is a baby born, but in a sense, a mother is also born, whether it is their first baby or their 5th.
My heart is to be a friend, a support, and an encouragement in the ways you feel you need it most and when you need it most.

Why I became a doula...
My name is Danielle Lewis and I am so glad you found your way here. For me, it all started about 4 years ago now, when I became pregnant with this precious little boy right here. Throughout pregnancy,
I became so excited about learning how to nourish my body and thus the little one growing within me. During my very long labor and delivery process I remember feeling so incredibly loved, held, and supported as my husband and doula were right there alongside me, helping
me the entire time. And it was in my postpartum period with our firstborn that I realized how sacred that time was to heal, bond with my baby,
and learn day by day. Becoming a doula has been such an honor and in the process I have become more and more passionate about caring for mothers--
the whole mother.
To get to walk alongside you and care for you on your journey would be an incredible privilege.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a doula exactly?
A doula is a support person--
A doula is trained to provide emotional, physical, and informational support to individuals during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period. They offer continuous care in the process of labor and delivery which helps create an environment in which the mother feels safe, held, honored, and celebrated. A doula advocates for your wishes, provides various comfort measures, and most of all journeys with you through the unpredictable yet beautiful experience of childbirth.
Why should I hire a doula?
A doula is an investment not only in care for you as a mother, but for your partner as well as your baby. A doula is an expert in the childbirth process, helping you navigate the various situations can arise in the process of childbirth with confidence and a sense of peace.
Various studies have also shown that the presence of a doula decreases the length of labor, the need for an unplanned C section, and the use of pain medications.
What happens if I go into labor early?
If you go into labor before the 38 week mark I will still try my very best to be there to support you. I also have 3 other doulas that I work closely with who could be a backup in the case that I wasn't available.
What is the difference between a doula and midwife?
Doulas and midwives work together as part of your team to care for you and your partner in labor and delivery.
A doula is primarily focused on your emotional needs as well as providing physical support through comfort measures and positioning, and creating an environment where you feel most comfortable, informed, and supported.
Alternatively, your midwife is a trained medical professional who is committed to monitoring the baby and your wellbeing through labor and delivery.
